Swimming is an excellent way of staying fit. I like it a lot more than running or gym or anything else, as a matter of fact. This is one activity that has kept me working out for a long time now. I would not say that I am totally fit, but I am certainly better than yesterday. If you are a regular swimmer you will know that after the initial excitements of being in the water swimming gets a bit monotonous. This is when you will start missing your favorite gadgets.

It can be difficult to review kitchen equipment. Everyone has their own little idiosyncrasies when it comes to cooking and preparing food. What one person likes, another hates. When it comes to the topic of food processors, a whole new debate opens up between cooks everywhere. On the one hand there are the traditional conservatives who believe that food should be prepared manually by the cook. Touching your ingredients is an important part of cooking. On the other hand there are the modernists who believe that man builds things to improve himself. Like the fork and knife, the food processor is the next logical step in the kitchen. It is hard to disagree when you get the chance to use the Magimix Food Processors.

The Magimix range first came out thirty years ago right at the beginning of the 80s. Considered revolutionary at the time, it is now hard to imagine a modern kitchen without a food processor. Like all tools, the food processor was designed to make life easier for man and on this front the Magimix does not disappoint.

Specifications

There are several versions to choose from so this review will cover the basic functions which are common to all the models.

For a start, things are kept simple. There are three buttons that allow access to all the functions. The motor automatically adjusts the power as you process so that you don’t have to worry about breaking it with a particularly tough vegetable or piece of meat. The processors all come in a range of different colours so you can choose one in keeping with your own taste.

When you first start using the processor you will be surprised at how efficient it is. Equipped with an ultra quiet commercial grade motor, the processor comes with a 12 year guarantee and all the parts come with three years each. Not bad when you consider some of the models available on the market. There are three bowls with each processor – Main, Midi and Mini – that allow the user to process food at different levels depending on what you’re making. Obviously the Main bowl is ideal for preparing larger quantities of food. The Midi bowl is designed for shredding and slicing and the Mini bowl is perfect for small quantities of food and comes with its own unique blade.

How does it perform?

A lot of TV chefs have been using Magimix for years and with good reason: it does what it says on the tin. Unlike other processors, it isn’t fiddly and with three buttons to control every function even a child could use it (though this is not recommended!). Quiet, compact and easy to place out of the way when finished with, the Magimix trumps the competition by making the cooking process as stress free and enjoyable as possible. It is also easy to clean, banishing those nightmares of spending hours trying to get cake mix off a hard to reach part of the processor.

Overall

Whilst this processor is generally a little more expensive then the average competitor, the price is more then reflected in the quality and ease of use. If you buy online then you’ll often find purchasing a Magimix a lot cheaper then you would expect. Cooks should head over to Go-Electrical if you’re looking to pick one of these beauties up at an affordable price.

Unlike the iPhone, the Xperia Arc can accommodate a global sim without the need for modifications. Also unlike the iPhone, the Arc can accommodate media outside that made by Apple. The 4.2 inch screen takes up most of the phone with only a millimetre of bezel to the left and right. The bottom of the screen reveals the standard buttons of ‘Back’, ‘Home’, and ‘Menu’, and whilst most users might find that a little on the stringent side consider that the iPhone only has one button on its handset. So what’s the Arc like to handle?

The touch screen interface is balanced just right with little in the way of over sensitivity at all – you won’t accidentally open an application you didn’t mean to press. It weighs only 117g which considering it’s closest rival the Google Nexus S comes in at 120g is very impressive. There’s a hidden HDMI output behind a dust stopper allowing you to plug the handset into any HD device including your TV or computer. Another neat little trick that Sony has installed is a proximity sensor that automatically shuts off the LED screen when you bring the phone up to your ear. Considering a common complaint amongst many Smartphone users was the heat coming off the screen, the sensor makes for a quirky but very welcome addition.

What about power though? Well for a start the LED isn’t quite as sharp as the iPhone 4’s, but it does run the very latest Android 2.3.2 OS meaning all those slow moments that users of the Xperia X10 experienced are banished in a heartbeat. The user interface as hinted at earlier is far better then any of Sony’s previous efforts. The Arc allows for multi touch input this time round ably demonstrated by Sony allowing you to spin the Home screen into an overview mode with a quick two fingered motion. The 1GHZ processor allows you to push the menu pages about with ease and no time delay at all. A range of new multimedia features have been added too with the Timescape Social Aggregator being the first one you’ll notice. Timescape allows the user to pull all their texts, twitter updates and facebook rubbish all into one space and is very handy.

Apple may be the leading producer of Smartphones, but Sony is quietly getting on with giving customers the flexibility and functionality they want, and that Apple will not provide.

This week I finally decided to walk into the Apple Store in Oxford Circus London as a part of therapy to accept the general increase of influence of Apple products in the electronics market. I see where the money we spend on the product goes. Its all in front of us, it isn’t like we spend a heavy 1500-2000 pounds on the laptop or the macintosh desktop and get no value from it.
There are 2 floors. On the 2nd floor towards the far end, there is a small open conference area where they screen how to use the software they sell for o’h so hefty amounts of money but surely its worth for the wealthy middle class customer. The software products which range from music developers to architects software to design, its all there in our faces. The on floor staff is excellent and helpful. They immediately deal with any customer problems, it is only here that which ever problem my sisters mac faced was dealt with with immediate force, unlike some other companies where they make you sit on a comfy chair and put you on the phone to customer support which takes a good 10 to 30 minds to reach.
There is a general problem with companies here who treat their customers very poorly, however apple has kept its mark and knows how to deal with customers. If other companies wish to be as good as them, they need to follow the exact same model.
